An introductory course in management and leadership that develops a 'systems? view of for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, and explores the interdisciplinary nature of managerial and leadership practices. Honors students examine the many components of organizations and analyze clashing views on controversial issues in management to help them understand the dynamics of managing in the real world. Through case method and self-assessment exercises, and a review of the academic literature, students gain an understanding of their own personal strengths and weaknesses as it relates to managing effectively. Enrollment limited to 15 students.

Organizational behavior studies how individuals relate in the workplace, and how group and organizational structures affect individual behavior. Students learn how individuals, groups, and organizations interact within a complex global environment. Students develop an understanding and appreciation of the complexities of balancing organizational goals with human needs. Topics include communications, motivation, group dynamics, leadership, power, the influence of technology, and organizational design and development.

Surveys what aspiring managers need to know about personnel and human resource management (HRM) in business and non-profit organizations. Covers staffing, recruiting and selection, strategic HRM, performance management, compensation, training and development, labor relations, and reviews the human resource legal issues. Effective human resource management is a crucial strategic issue in todays workplace as organizations outsource and manage a more diverse workforce.

A survey of pension, health, and other employee benefit plans from financial and management perspectives. Basic legal and regulatory aspects, including ERISA, HIPAA, and other federal laws. Stock options, non-qualified plans, and other executive benefits. Emphasis on tax aspects and employee incentives.

(Same as REA 2943.) Provides an overview of the field of real estate and prepares the student for the New York State Real Estate Salesperson examination. Topics include license law and regulations, law of agency, real estate instruments, estates and interests, real estate financing, land use regulations, introduction to construction, appraisal, human rights, fair housing, real estate mathematics, and environmental issues.

(Same as REA 2945) Covers residential, office, and retail properties, and provides an introduction to the principles and practices of real estate management. Topics include forms of real estate ownership, budget and financial reports, marketing and leasing, rent collection, emergency procedures, maintenance, and property inspections. Also covers landlord-tenant relations, labor relations, environmental law, building and housing codes
