ENG 2087: Contemporary World Fiction
3.00 Credits
Yeshiva University
This course will explore fiction by writers from around the world in the ages of colonialism and globalization. Memory, history, narratives grand and small, the present as shaped by such larger movements and forces: these will be our points of reference. The literary works we will read in this course--from Latin America, New Zealand, Australia, the Caribbean, India, West Africa, South Africa and the US--aspire to a profoundly historical transnationalism in accounts that are powerful, moving, and entertaining, searching for the inner life of people and cultures through the culturally redemptive act of storytelling.
