An intermediate level course designed to increase speed and develop greater accuracy for longer time periods. More emphasis is placed on developing a higher degree of skill through production-timed writings and continued attention to correct operating techniques. Document formatting will be developed by completing a variety of specific project assignments involving intricate tabulations, rough drafts, minutes of meetings, news releases, reports, and various business documents. This is an introductory course, which will provide students with an overview of business technologies. The course will introduce basic computer concepts, software, internet, and emerging technologies. Students will examine the latest business technologies and the impact that new emerging technologies will have on the business world. Students will receive hands on experience in file management, word processing, spreadsheets, and using the Internet for research.

This course will give students competency creating high quality documents with the Microsoft Word for Windows word processing program. Discussions will include editing, format defaults and file management. Hands-on instruction will include creating a document, saving, printing, copying and using the thesaurus and spell-check. Topics covered will include: basic mail merge procedures, envelopes and labels, tables and formulas, templates and wizards, as well as desktop publishing. Prerequisite: OFT115 or MMT101 or NET111

Students will learn the concepts of a graphic application that will allow them to turn their facts, concepts, and their ideas into professional presentations. By completing projects using PowerPoint for Windows, the students will create presentations that will include the following: word processing, outlining, graphing, drawing and clip art as well as slide transition and animation. Prerequisite: OFT115 or MMT101 or NET111

This course introduces advanced spreadsheet concepts using software in the Windows environment. Topics to be covered include: formulas, functions, enhancing spreadsheets with graphs and charts, working with large spreadsheets, analyzing spreadsheet data and sorting and querying a spreadsheet database. Prerequisite: OFT115 or MMT101 or NET111

This course is a continuation of OFT116. It will provide students with a more in-depth study of MS Word application functions. Topics include: sorting text and data records, templates and wizards, macros, document notations, online forms, newsletters, advanced mail merge procedures, graphs/charts and web pages.
