Introduce to design and illustration students to the basic concepts of drawing the human figure from life. Two thirds of the semester will be devoted to drawing the nude model in the studio, while one third of the course will be devoted to drawing the clothed figure in the studio. The application of the principles of typographic design and graphic design in advertising and editorial layout using a computer. This course enhances the student's existing artistic talents and further develops the layout and typographic design skills acquired through prerequisite(s) courses. Currently, this course utilizes QuarkXPress software running on the Macintosh hardware platform. Prerequisite(s): VIS 120, VIS 210 (2,2) 3 credits

This course focuses on the process of bringing words and images together to create the visual communication of thoughts, ideas, and information. The application of design concepts and principles of typography will be emphasized. Through the use of traditional media, students will continue to build a strong understanding of how to design and think twodimensionally and three-dimensionally. Prerequisite(s): VIS 114, VIS 120, VIS 122, VIS 124 (2,2) 3 credits

A study of conceptual thinking, applied problem solving techniques and how they are used in advertising. Emphasis will be placed on copy ideas and the integration with visual imagery to create dramatic, evocative and non-traditional forms of communication often combining conscious and subconscious elements, and conscious and unconscious assumptions. Prerequisite(s): VIS 212 (2,2) 3 credits

An exploration of digital illustration techniques. Students will apply techniques of traditional art media, color principles, graphic design and typography while using electronic media. In addition to exploring new imaging techniques, issues such as copyright considerations, software integration, and output options, will be explored. Prerequisite(s): VIS 210, or VIS 150. A survey of the concepts and applications of graphic design, typography and page layout as they pertain to publication design. This course is intended for students enrolled in the Professional Communications curriculum. Emphasis will be placed on effective communication, aesthetics, and conformity to corporate identity guidelines. Prerequisite(s): BCS 102 This course is suited for students enrolled in the Professional Communications program. (3,0) 3 credits

The continuing exploration of graphic design, typography and page layout as they pertain to publication design. This course is intended for students enrolled in the Professional Communications curriculum. Students will apply the concepts learned in prerequisite(s) coursework to a variety of publication projects utilizing professional page layout software. Prerequisite(s): VIS 240 This course is suited for students enrolled in the Professional Communications program. (3,0) 3 credits

Advanced black and white photography exploring a variety of forms and aspects from photojournalism to experimental technique. Further development of technical skills will be included, and special emphasis will be placed on creative expression. Students must supply their own 35mm SLR camera, film and photographic paper. Prerequisite(s): VIS 124 and/or Department approval (2,2) 3 credits

This builds upon two-dimensional and three-dimensional design concepts and works with the fourth dimension: time. Students learn to create storyboards, which essentially are the plans for images that change over a period of time. Specific applications include television commercials, video productions, animations, interactive and linear CD-ROMS. Prerequisite(s): VIS 112, VIS 122 (1,3) 2 credits

This course will offer an advanced study and exploration of drawing and painting techniques. Students will be expected to enter the course with a proficiency of drawing skills, having completed Drawing I, Drawing II, and Figure Drawing as prerequisite(s)s. Students will acquire a wide range of skills related to drawing and painting. Advanced techniques and media will enable students to attain a higher level of artistic self-expression. Prerequisite(s): VIS 120, VIS 214 (2,2) 3 credits
