This course is a selective but comprehensive overview of the musical style known as "rock and roll." The course historically follows rock's beginning as a child of Afro- American musical styles and continues through its development into the 1980's. The course emphasizes and explores: theabsorption of black music and culture into the conservative white lifestyle of the 1950's; the adoption of rock music as a signature expression of the "baby-boom" culture of the 1960's; the diffusion of the rock music of the 1970's into diverse styles, including progressive rock; and the incorporation of characteristics of European classical music. Freehand Drawing first introduces strategies that refine students' ability to see and understand complex visual characteristics such as shape and form and then to record what is discerned accurately and expressively with pencil on paper. This independent study course is designed to permit individual students to pursue topics or projects approved by supervising faculty. Prerequisites: 1. Completion of at least one semester's work in a degree program at SUNY Delhi. 2. A cumulatiove GPA of at least 2.00, unless there are extenuating circumstances. 3. At least 3 credit hours in one foundation course specific to the discipline, with the permission of the Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences. 4. No more than 6 credit hours of independent study may be taken during any one semester, and no more than 15 credit hours of independent study may be applied toward an associate's degree. This course consists of a 90-hour work experience in a repair shop setting where the student will perform diagnosis and repairs to brake hydraulic systems, drum and disc brakes, power assist units, wheel bearings, parking brakes, warning systems, and anti-lock brakes as relates to the requirements of the AUTO 115 brake systems course. The student will be supervised by management (preferably ASE certfied) at the participating shop. Students are required to maintain a log of all tasks and clock hours completed. The cooperating supervisor and program faculty must approve the records before a grade is assigned and credit is awarded.
