SOCI 308: Women and Crime

Primary emphasis is placed on women's unique pathways into crime, as related to their social and economic marginalization in society. Violence against women is explored both historically and sociologically to provide an understanding of its criminalization and changes in the system's response to it. The focus throughout the course is societal perception of gender and how this has an overriding influence on the treatment accorded women within the criminal justice system. Prerequisite: SOCI 101D.
