This course involves the application of formal design, development, usability, and architecture technique to the inception and installation of a large industry-based information technology project. Each student produces a non-trivial functional system, discusses the project and implementation options with a client, presents their accomplishments and progress, as well as documents the product and its development process throughout the semester. Topics include: the principles of current trends in media as they relate to virtual authoring; current and new media technologies to create, extend, and meet virtual authoring purposes; business information flow; web application analysis and design; requirement analysis; web application proposals. Basic understanding of various media technologies and concepts including but not limited to podcasting, webcasting, animation, video, virtual tours, JavaScript, freeware or shareware programs for audio manipulation and editing, and low-bandwidth movie tools/programs will also be covered.
