    This course concentrates on the theory, processes, and desired outcomes related to nursing management of complex care delivery throughout the lifespan. Precepted experiences in acute-care and community health settings provide the opportunity for professional nursing role socialization/transition in clinical judgment, communication, and interventions to facilitate therapeutic outcomes associated with interdisciplinary complex care delivery. In addition, the student writes a proposal for a research study investigating a question relevant to the care of complex clients. Restrictions: Senior Nursing majors enrolled in the College Honors Program. Prerequisites: NURS 401 and 403 or 411.

    This is a capstone course in the major. The course is a synthesis of professional nursing through critical thinking and application of knowledge and research from nursing science along with the basic sciences, social sciences, and humanities in the development and presentation of a selected case study and nursing grand rounds. Students are expected to demonstrate skills in the areas of information literacy, scholarly writing, and verbal communication through the preparation and presentation of a selected case study from one area of clinical practice. Restriction: Senior Nursing majors. Corequisite: NURS 413.

The organization and financing of health care in an increasingly diverse health care delivery system is explored. The student participates in experiential learning in professional nursing leadership in a health care setting.

    This course focuses on the holistic and multi-dimensional approach to health assessment and the development of physical assessment skills which are essential for critical thinking, culturally sensitive clinical decisions, therapeutic interventions, and achievement of desired health outcomes across the life span. Students refine competencies in critical thinking and physical assessment skills in laboratory sessions, the use of case studies and human patient simulation technology.

    This course examines the state of informatics in health care in addition to the application of future technologies in health care systems, administrative decision support, research/evidence-based practice, clinical care decision support, eHealth, integrated communication, and distributed education. Students are exposed to an overview of health care informatics practice; theoretical underpinnings of health care informatics; health care information systems; the impact of informatics on the socio-cultural, ethical, and legal environments of health care; and the infrastructure needed to support informatics in health care systems. Technology demonstrations include human patient simulation, online courseware, use of PDAs in clinical practice, and e-library resources. Access to a personal computer with Internet capability and purchase of a PDA are required.

    This course explores the transformation of the healthcare system into an individualized patient-centered environment. This environment concentrates on respect for individual needs, provision of a safe environment, and the achievement of quality outcomes. Students apply case management theory, processes, and skills in an experiential learning practicum.
