SPST 493: Advanced Field Experience

This is a selective program that directly involves students with an approved sport organization for an entire semester. Eligible students will have demonstrated both excellence in the classroom and an ability to work independently. The College's internship policy applies, with additional requirements and responsibilities to be determined in consultation with the Program Director. A minimum of 600 hours is required for the Advanced Field Experience. Students who take the AFE receive six sport management elective credits and six internship credits, for a total of twelve credit hours. Prerequisites: Senior status in the major, successful completion of SPST 390, a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 in the major, and permission of the Program Director.

This course includes professional skill (résumé writing and mockinterviewing) development. A major emphasis, however, is placed on completion of a research project. Students conduct research under the direction of a faculty member in the department. This course is the culmination of students' academic work and it allows students to demonstrate a proficiency in research and analysis to graduate programs and prospective employers. Restriction: Senior SPST majors. Prerequisite: SPST 399.

SSCH 101C: LC Exploring Scientific Thinking Through Writing

In the course, we explore the links between science, scientists, scientific thinking and society through writing and other forms of communication such as debates.
