For certain students who a have not worked in communications prior and who do not currently work in the field, practical experience may be desirable. In these instances, this course may be recommended by the student's advisor. Learning will focus ondecision-making and policy-level activities. Limited placements to select locations. Students work under the supervision of a faculty advisor to produce a creative communications project, accompanied by an analytical paper. They begin by developing a project proposal with overview and rationale, literature review and method. Upon completion, an oral presentation is delivered in a public forum. Students may register for 3, 6 or 9 credits in any one semester.

Students produce a research study under the supervision of a faculty advisor. They begin by developing a thesis proposal with overview and rationale, literature review and method. Thesis proposals require approval by the department and graduate academic committee. The completed thesis and its results are presented in a public forum. Students register initially for the maximum credits desired, and in subsequent semesters, register for Thesis in Progress (0 credits) until completion.

This course is offered to non-majors as an introductory course to computer science. Number systems, hardware, software, architecture and other topics will be explored. Students will learn the fundamentals of programming using various platforms such as HTML, JavaScript and the object-oriented Alice. Other software may also be explored throughout the semester.
