MUS 538: Jazz/Pop Arranging

Students will use Finale musical notation software on personal computers to learn how to write jazz and pop arrangements for various combinations of instruments. They will learn how to write for the rhythm section, various sizes of small jazz groups, and an 18-piece big band. Study will include concepts in jazz theory and harmony. Emphasis will be placed on hearing each assignment played by live musicians and/or MIDI.
