The course emphasizes the use of descriptive, geometric, mathematical, statistical and economic models in clarifying problems in organizing and evaluating information as well as comparing alternative courses of action. Students will use a microcomputer statistical software package. Prerequisite: MBA 508, or equivalent.

The purpose of the course is to explore, at an advanced level, the concepts, principles and rationale that support the framework of financial accounting as represented by financial statements of various forms of economic enterprises. Consider-able emphasis is placed upon valuation of assets, the full and appropriate disclosures of liabilities and the proper presentation of financial reports. Throughout the course, the statements of the Accounting Principles Board of the AICPA, the statements andinterpretations of the Financial Accounting Standards Board and the regulations of the Securities and Exchange Commission are studied. Prerequisites: 21 credits in undergraduate accounting with a grade of C or better.

The purpose of the course is to broadly explore the principles and procedures of the financial audit leading to the expression of an opinion by an independent public accountant. Topics to be studied are: the audit engagement; the audit program and internal control evaluation; statistical sampling; the history and organization of the profession of public accounting in the United States and abroad; professional ethics; compilation and review; audit evidence; audits of electronic data processing systems; standards of audit reporting; assurance services; and current research in auditing topics. Through role playing, core studies and plant visitations, students will be introduced to the realities of the financial audit. All students will prepare a detailed audit program as a project. Prerequisites: 21 credits in undergraduate accounting with a grade of C or better.

Students will research the law and regulations through library study of the code and various tax services. The taxability of individuals, partnerships, corporations, estates and trusts will be considered. Prerequisites: 21 credits in undergraduate accounting with a grade of C or better.
