Students learn more Chinese characters and words, reach a total of about 650 characters, 1000 words, and use more complicated grammatical structures, e.g., reduplication of adjectives and verbs, resultative and potential complements. This course introduces the student to the written French in the Arts and Sciences. The student is taught the grammar and the translation techniques needed to translate texts from French into English. The texts chosen cover a wide range of literature, from the literary to the more popular genres of mass communications. The course is intended for those who will take the foreign language proficiency examination and is useful for those who plan to work for a multinational company. A grade of A or B satisfies the language requirement. Prerequisites/Corequisites: Prerequisites: prior knowledge of French required. Open only to graduate and senior students. No core program credit.
