After a review of basic human nutrition science, guides students in examining individual eating behaviors and their nutritional adequacy compared to current recommendations. Nutrient functions are presented within the context of normal physiological processes, and then related to a variety of disease states and nutritional problems, including prescriptive diet modifications. Relationships between nutrition and health throughout the life cycle are also studied. Fall semester.
