New Core: Fulfills 3 credits in Area of Knowledge IV. Prerequisite: ART 186 or permission of Instructor. Course Description: This course will combine practical skills and the challenge of real-world design experience. Contemporary artists often do not have the skills, the time, or the means to create a website to represent their artwork online. However, in a global marketplace it has become a necessary marketing tool for all artists. Students will spend the first four weeks in the computer lab learning web design skills and studying example web sites of galleries and contemporary artists. They will also be introduced to artworks created on and for the internet, using web-technologies. They will be introduced to a select group of New York visual artists working in a variety of media who do not yet have websites. Each student will select and consult with one artist whose work interests them to create functional online websites representing the artist's work online. In exchange for the students' web designs, each artist will be required to give a lecture about their work to the class, open to the Pace community.
