  • 2.00 - 6.00 Credits

    2 to 6 hours credit. Prerequisites: EC 198 with a C or better, employed in a related field of major program of study or departmental approval. This course is the third in a series of four courses that will enable the student to demonstrate greater competence in work environment skills. The student will work a minimum of 75 hours throughout the semester for each credit awarded. Topics of special interest to the student will be developed.

    2 to 6 hours credit. Prerequisites: EC 297 with a C or better, employed in a related field of major program of study or departmental approval. This course is the fourth in a series of four courses that will enable the student to demonstrate greater competence in work environment skills. The student will work a minimum of 75 hours throughout the semester for each credit awarded. Topics of special interest to the student will be developed.
  • 3.00 Credits

    3 hours credit. This course will enable the student to understand his/her role and responsibilities in the classroom, to understand the purpose, components, and process of an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP), and to become familiar with landmark legislation governing special education including Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). In addition, this course will enable the student to understand the purpose of a specific curriculum and his/her role in implementing it, to develop a variety of instructional strategies and apply strategies for reinforcement of skills introduced by the teacher, to interpret lesson plans and develop activities to implement the plan. The student will complete a minimum of 150 hours of work in a classroom that serves children with special needs.
  • 1.00 - 3.00 Credits

    1 to 3 hours credit. Prerequisites: Secured Internship in a related field or major program of study or departmental approval. This course will enable the student to gain exposure to the work environment. The student will work a minimum of 75 hours throughout the semester for each credit awarded. Topics of special interest to the student will be developed.
  • 1.00 - 3.00 Credits

    1 to 3 hours credit. Prerequisites: ED 193 and a secured internship in a related field or major program of study or departmental approval. This course is the second in a series of two internship courses and will enable the student to demonstrate greater competence in work environment skills. The student will work a minimum of 75 hours throughout the semester for each credit awarded. Topics of special interest to the student will be developed.
  • 2.00 - 6.00 Credits

    2 to 6 hours credit. Prerequisites: Employed in a related field of major program of study or departmental approval. This course is the first in a series of four courses that will enable the student to gain practical work experience. The student will work a minimum of 75 hours throughout the semester for each credit awarded. Topics of special interest to the student will be developed.
  • 2.00 - 6.00 Credits

    2 to 6 hours credit. Prerequisites: ED 197 with a C or better, employed in a related field of major program of study or departmental approval. This course will enable the student to demonstrate greater competence in work environment skills. This is the second in a series of four courses. The student will work a minimum of 75 hours throughout the semester for each credit awarded. Topics of special interest to the student will be developed.
  • 3.00 Credits

    credit hours. Prerequisite: Must have sophomore standing. This course will enable the student to gain valuable insight into the teaching profession by hands-on exploration of current theories in pedagogy. The student will be able to gather, assemble, review, and analyze information helpful in choosing career options in the teaching field. They will be able to organize leadership tasks and develop the necessary skills to continue their preparation for teaching, demonstrating a professional attitude toward the teaching profession. This required course for education majors must be taken before a student enters the required professional program in the junior or senior year. Ten hours of observation/participation (30 hours total) will be required at each level, elementary, middle level, and high school.
  • 3.00 Credits

    3 hours credit. This course will enable the student to assess and determine diversity among learners, from persons with disabilities to those who are gifted. The student will be able to work together effectively with other professionals and families to develop an appropriate individual education plan for each special needs learner. The student will also be able to apply the public laws and mandates that pertain to special education, assuring appropriate education for special needs learners.
  • 3.00 Credits

    3 hours credit. This course will enable the student to facilitate learning with technology for elementary and secondary students. By exploring current theories of computer pedagogy and by participating in a school practicum, the student will work with practicing teachers to plan, design, review, and analyze specific lesson plans using technology in the elementary or secondary classroom.
