In order to understand and fully appreciate contemporary poetry, it is essential to identify how the art form has developed, linguistically and thematically, over time. This poetic journey takes listeners from Rebecca Lard, considered the first poet in Indiana, to the early doggerel of poet James Whitcomb Riley, and to E.A. Richardson, Indiana¿s first unofficial poet laureate. It continues to the confessional work of seminal African American poet Etheridge Knight to the Reservoir Dogwoods¿ own work dealing with life in postmodern Indiana. Instructors: Jason Ammerman, Tony Brewer, Matthew Jackson, and Joseph Kerschbaum, members of Reservoir Dogwoods
