An altered book can be a travelogue of treasured experiences, a wall hanging or coffee table piece, or a one-of-a-kind work of art and makes a lovely gift which captures special meaning for the recipient. Bring a book and we¿ll show you how to do the rest! In Session I you will view a variety of completed books, start gathering ideas for your own books, and learn basic techniques. Session II will be an instructor-assisted work session. Bring your own unwanted hard-bound book, trinkets and treasures to incorporate into your finished piece.

They include St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and National Historic Landmarks: First Christian Church, North Christian Church, and First Baptist Church. Students will learn how to create `pop-ups¿ and other marvelous, movable paper constructions in this intriguing craft art class. First used in the thirteenth century to teach astronomy, geography and medicine, it was not until the eighteenth century that `movable books¿ were designed for amusement. Today, creative products employing paper engineering are enjoyed worldwide. And in this class, from greeting cards to 3-D sculpture, students will enjoy learning how to make uncommon movable art with a few common and inexpensive supplies. Starting with simple folds, they will advance to more complex paper engineering in easy step-by-step projects. They will learn different methods of paper engineering at each class meeting to produce one or more works of `action¿ art for gift giving or display. This class is a unique and fascinating learning experience.
