Design of computer processing hardware. Design examples include finite state machines, integer adders and multipliers, datapaths and processor control. Students will design and implement a special-purpose data processor. CAD tools for design entry, simulation, synthesis and timing verification. Use of VHDL. Implementation with FPGAs. Three hours a week includes laboratory sessions. Fall Prerequisites: EECE 230. (Cr. 3)

Topics include: Fundamentals of Transmission Lines; Electrostatics; Magnetostatics; Time-varying Fields and Plane Waves; Wave Reflection; Elements of radiation. Prerequisites: PHYS 102, MATH 201. Modern telecommunications systems for voice , video, and data utilizing wire, fiber, and wireless. Wire communications systems for voice and video - telephone systems basics. Digital communications pulse modulation, coding techniques including digital video. Data transmission using modems - asynchronous and synchronous formats, error detection and data compressions. Computer networks, local and wide area. Fiber communications systems. Prerequisite: EECE 303. (Cr. 3)
