Topics include review of processes, different method of cost analysis, QFD, forecasting, DFM, concurrent engineering, lean manufacturing, CIM, group technology for machines, production line design, assembly line balancing, production yield models, machine-labor coupling, job evaluation, selection of machines, labor, materials handling, storage and warehousing. The course also reviews some automation, automatic control and PLC programming. Concurrent registration in ME 201, or permission of instructor. S (N)

Programming and operation of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) lathes, mills, machining centers and Electric Discharge Machines (EDM) are covered in this course. Emphasis is placed on actual hands-on and practical experience. In this course, students produce parts using CNC machines. Prerequisites: ME 206 and ME 207, or permission of instructor. S (N)

Basic CAD tasks necessary to complete simple orthographic projections using CAD software (AutoCAD). Various commands are studied and followed-up with drawings exemplifying the various commands studied. Commands include lines, circles, arcs, lettering, shading, dimensioning and introduction to solid modeling. Design projects are assigned. Prerequisites: DF 104, a basic drafting course and an understanding of basic drafting or permission of instructor. S (N)

An introduction to the solution of drafting problems and development of graphic presentations using computer assisted drafting techniques. Use of programming techniques for direct solution to drafting/ graphics problems and available software routines for complex problems. Includes the introduction to use of the computer plotters. Prerequisites: AR 108, AR 109, or DF 104. Concurrent registration in ME 252. F/S (S)

This course covers stress and strain calculations to understand the behavior of material under different types of loading. Topics include fundamental stress-strain relationships, tensile, shear, torsion, bending/flexure, deflections, elongations, deformations, thermal stresses and thin wall cylinders. Prerequisite: MT 125 or MT 121. Concurrent registration in ME 316, or permission of instructor. S (N)
