This course is designed to provide a series of advanced topics relative to the practice of Respiratory Therapy. This course will draw from the student's knowledge and treatment of cardiopulmonary disease and help provide direction for promotion of disease management. These topics include cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, smoking cessation, patient learning needs, ethical and legal implication of the practice of respiratory care, quality assurance and professionalism. Pre-requisites: Matriculation in the Respiratory Care program or permission of the department and successful completion of all previous Respiratory Care coursework.

A survey of the biological sciences to provide an understanding of plant and animal life. Emphasis is placed on cellular structure and function, tissue development, systems transport, digestive and reproductive systems. F (C, S)

Designed to provide the student with basic swimming and water safety skills. Students that attain the necessary proficiency levels may receive certification in swimming. Recreational activities designed to provide fun and skill development are stressed. F/S (C, S) this course gives the student the option of receiving responding to emergencies or emergency response and CPR certifications by the American Red Cross or Heartsaver First Aid and CPR certifications by the American Heart Association. A series of instructional modules in recreation leadership activities. Emphasis will be placed on teaching skills, progressions and methodology in the activities of tennis, golf, archery and bowling. F/S (C, S)

A study of the history, philosophy and nature of the recreation movement. The nature and the importance of private, public and therapeutic recreation will be investigated. The course will include specific observations of private and public recreation facilities and areas that will introduce the student to the general field of recreation and leisure services.
