NUR 111: Nursing 1 Basic Needs

Nursing 111 is an introduction to nursing practice where novice nursing students are taught objective attributes. This course provides rules to guide the performance of the students in beginning data collection. The student will begin to recognize the patterns of data collection through situational experiences. The nursing process is introduced and patient care situations focus on the assessment phase and nursing diagnosis. Communication theory and the development of the nurse-patient relationship are introduced. This foundation will provide novice nursing students with both the cognitive and psychomotor skills required for subsequent nursing courses. Nursing 112B concentrates on alteration in basic needs with a focus on basic patient assessment skills, the patient undergoing surgery and patients with interruptions in mobility. Additional psychomotor skills are developed and application made in laboratory situations.
