How to cut your energy bill in half There are many things in your home that are using energy inefficiently. By locating them and learning how they can be made more efficient without losing comfort you can save a lot of money. This class will allow the students to learn about weatherproofing, insulating, and increasing the efficiency of their electrical and heating systems. Mr. Juczak lectures and presents workshops on a wide variety of topics including: mortgage free/alternative construction, building on and off grid home energy systems, self-reliance, cordwood construction techniques, wind turbine construction and food growing & preservation techniques. Wind Power for Homeowners Students participating in this class will build a 500 watt axial-flux wind turbine from its basic raw components. Blades, stator, rotor, windings and mechanical assemblies will be discussed and constructed. Safety, tools, and procurement of components will also be covered. Mr. Juczak lectures and presents workshops nationally on a wide variety of topics including: mortgage free/alternative construction, building on and off grid home energy systems, self-reliance, cordwood construction techniques, wind turbine construction and food growing & preservation techniques.

Public Outdoor Accessibility Refresher Updated Standards and Guidelines This course will serve as a refresher opportunity for design professionals, business and school administrators, government officials, and others who have interest in addressing outdoor accessibility needs for their public facilities. Recent changes in ADA regulations for outdoor accessibility will be presented. The class will also conduct a field tour of selected outdoor accessibility design and construction examples within, and near to JCC. The status of proposed Department of Justice changes in ADA regulations for outdoor accessibility will be reviewed. Recommended design and construction methodologies for outdoor recreational facilities including playgrounds, trails, boating, and golfing facilities will be presented. This course will be submitted as a Professional Development Opportunity for NYS registered Landscape Architects, and will provide 3.0 hours of CEU HSW.

In this workshop Architect, Brian Jones, will introduce you to green building and discuss a ¿common sense¿ approach to green building including LEED principles, sensible design techniques, and low cost sustainable solutions.
