2 cl hrs, 2 cr (spring only) The student will learn the principles of water supply and sewerage collection and treatment, with an emphasis on NYC's water supply and sewerage treatment systems. Storm water and sewerage design concepts and theory will be explored as well as elementary hydrology, including surface and aquifer systems. Considerations of pipe flow, minor losses, series vs. parallel pipe systems, pumping systems as well as open channel flow will be covered. Prerequisites: CMCE 2351/CV 351, MAT 1375/MA 375

2 cl hrs, 2 cr Construction materials and methods used in building construction of all public works facilities are studied. Also covered are office and field practices involved in such projects. Current materials, methods and practices of construction using NYC Building and Zoning codes, as well as A.A.S.H.T.O. codes as reference are covered. 3 cl hrs, 3 cr This introductory course is designed for students with no or minimal proficiency in Chinese (non-heritage speakers). Mandarin Chinese, the official language spoken by the majority of the world's Chinese population, will be taught in Romanized form (pinyin). The emphasis is on speaking, listening comprehension and basic conversational skills. Students will also be exposed to the Chinese writing system and learn Chinese characters. Prerequisite: Foreign language placement examination

3 cl hrs, 3 cr Concentrating on the expansion of vocabulary and grammar, the course aims at further upgrading students' Mandarin proficiency. Intensive practice of reading, pronunciation and listening will be emphasized. To reinforce students' comprehension of the language, aspects of the Chinese culture such as history, art, calligraphy and social custom, will be incorporated into the lessons. Topics include input-stream, data input, printer output, alphanumeric and numeric editing, the IF and EVALUATE statements, as well as the concepts of Structured Programming. Programming problems are assigned and executed through the CUNY Computer Center VM/MVS system. 2 lab hrs, 2 cr This course provides an overview of computer hardware and operating system concepts used on personal and business computer systems. Students will problem-solve using the command line interface in the Windows, Linux and UNIX environment. Focus will be on command syntax, disk organization and writing simple-to-complex batch files. Students will partition the hard drive and install Windows 2000. Students will also use Linux and UNIX operating systems to execute problem-solving exercises. 2 cl hrs, 2 lab hrs, 3 cr This course will introduce the student to ANSI standard Structured Query Language (SQL). The course will cover the various syntax that governs this language. In-depth discussions and practice will be given so that the student will be able to manipulate (insert, update, delete and retrieve) data in a relational database.
