This course is designed to re-socialize the registered nurse to the professional role and to nursing as a scientific discipline. The course provides an overview of professional concepts, including historical, philosophical and theoretical, basic to the development of professionalism in nursing practice. The philosophy and theoretical framework of the baccalaureate program are examined. Emphasis will be placed on the changing health care environment and the impact on the professional nurse's role. The student will be expected to participate through relevant readings and class discussion.
