This course is an introduction to the profession of nursing at the technical level. Included are the technical nursing skills necessary to assist individuals across the lifespan in meeting a hierarchy of basic needs, the nursing implications in growth and development, the concept of common health care needs, and the utilization of the nursing process. The supportive elements of the conceptual framework are introduced: communication, ethnic and cultural sensitivity, psychosocial needs, nutrition and diet therapy, pharmacology and moral, ethical, and legal accountability. Clinical laboratory experiences in the technical nursing skills needed to assist individuals of all ages.

This course is an introduction to the essentials of a comprehensive health assessment. Included in the course are the nursing skills necessary to gather data through interview and physical examination of clients throughout the lifespan. This course requires independent skills laboratory practice. Proficiency is evaluated in the laboratory setting. (Fall and Summer) Pre-requisites: BI 114, BI 114L, BI 214, BI 214L, MA 121.
