Image processing techniques include: histogram equalization, density slicing, rectification of a raw digital image using a) image to map rectification and b) image to image registration, band rationing techniques, image filtering techniques, spectral enhancement indices, principal components analysis, supervised classification, clusters using an unsupervised classification approach (ISODATA) and feature image space, and change detection methods. Application of remote sensing will be explored. Pre-requisite: IT 386.

Understanding and being able to use effectively spatial statistics constitutes an integral part of training Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing specialists. Problems in spatial statistics fall into one of three major areas of analysis, depending on the type of spatial data available or the spatial process under study. These are: Point Pattern Analysis of Spatially Continuous Data, and the Analysis of Area Data. Completion of this course will enable students to: understand the basic concepts in spatial statistics; apply a variety of basic spatial statistic methods and techniques to geographical data. Pre-requisite: IT 384.
