Assessment of the political, social, and economic institutions of American society as they frame race, crime, and punishment. Ways that the American criminal justice system has operated to both maintain and ameliorate a racially oppressive society. This course is the same as Africana Studies 43.2.

Video games, computers in classrooms, "hackers," the world ofprofessional programmers, computers in the workplace, robots, and expert systems. Political and military impact of computers. Issues of privacy and ethics. This course is the same as Computer and Information Science 5.4. Prerequisite: Core Curriculum 3.11 or 3.12 or Core Studies 5 or 5.1, or Computer and Information Science 1.10 or 1.20 or 1.5; and Core Curriculum 2.3 or Core Studies 3 or Sociology 5.
