3 hours; 3 credits A course open to juniors or seniors majoring in economics who wish to pursue independent research in an area or topic not otherwise covered in the course offerings. The course - work will include a comprehensive term paper. To enroll, a student must obtain both the chairperson's consent and that of a full-time instructor who agrees to serve as the student's academic advisor. This course may not be included in the 24-credit major in economics. Prerequisites: ECO 3100, 3200, and 4000, and a GPA of 2.0 or better in those courses.

Students are required to write a series of reports on their internship duties and progress, as well as a term report in which they analyze in detail an aspect of their work that relates closely to their academic studies in economics. Open only to seniors who are majoring in economics, who are in good economic standing, and who obtain permission of the department. These courses count as free electives and may not be included in the 24-credit major in economics. Students may include at most a total of 6 internship course credits in their degree program. Prerequisite: Senior status.
