Visual design elements as they relate to new media. Emphasizes aesthetics and visual problem solving such as typographic issues, color management, hierarchy of information, image optimization, and effective layout. This course is cross-listed as ARTC 1359. The student may register for either ARTC 1359 or ARTC 1459, but may receive credit for only one of the two. (3 Lec., 4 Lab.)

Theory and techniques for pre-press preparation using industry standard software for final file output. Topics include the procedures and problems involved in computer file preparation ranging from trapping, color separations, and resolutions to printing basics and service bureaus. (2 Lec., 4 Lab.)

Skill development in three-dimensional modeling and rendering techniques using lighting, staging, and special effects for digital output. Emphasis on the production of three-dimensional (3-D) animation as final digital outputting using modeling, rendering and animation software. (2 Lec., 4 Lab.)

A studio course focused on advanced 3-D modeling and rendering techniques using industry standard software: spline modeling, patch modeling, and other organic modeling techniques; learn advanced use of camera settings, lighting, and surfacing to create detailed environments; cover advanced topics such as particle and volumetric effects, and setting up a model with weight maps, hierarchies, bones, and constraints. This course covers techniques for writing effective headlines, captions and copy for a variety of visual media. Students learn to gather facts, generate ideas, present information and edit copy for advertisements, web pages, brochures, newsletters, press kits, multimedia presentations and other forms of visual communication. A continuation of ARTC 1373, advanced concepts of creative web site design are presented. Focus is on integrating graphics software with HTML editing software to produce advanced interactive web sites that maintain integrity of design. Topics also include preparation of proposals for web sites, legal issues and visual communication of concept toward target audience. (2 Lec., 4 Lab.)

The student explores all phases of the design process and client relationships in producing graphics and a complete website for an actual client. Topics include creating a client survey, preparing a project plan or proposal and contract, creating logos, brochures, and/or newsletters, creating website architecture, navigational elements, site structure, informational design and visual interface design to produce graphics, printed materials and a multi-page website for the client. Topics also include legal, copyright and accessibility issues. (2 Lec., 4 Lab.)
