This is the second semester of academic transfer Swahili. This course continues the oral practice, reading, writing, grammar and cultural studies begun in SWAH 1470. Students are expected to acquire a substantial amount of vocabulary and begin to deal with idiomatic language and more advanced syntax. (3 Lec., 2 Lab.) Trigonometry and geometry as used in a variety of technical settings. Includes the use of plane and solid geometry to solve areas and volumes encountered in industry. (3 Lec.)

Topics address recently identified current events, skills, knowledge, and/or attitudes and behaviors pertinent to the technology or occupation and relevant to the professional development of the student. This course may be repeated if topics and learning outcomes vary. (3 Lec.)

Study of human behavior with emphasis on emotional and mental abnormalities and modes of treatment incorporating the nursing process. (1 Lec.)

A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. Focus is on caring for the patient in the maternal-child setting. (3 Ext.)

Introduction to the nursing profession including history, standards of practice, legal and ethical issues, and role of the vocational nurse. Topics include mental health, therapeutic communication, cultural and spiritual diversity, nursing process, and holistic awareness. (2 Lec.)

General principles of medication administration including determination of dosage, preparation, safe administration, and documentation of multiple forms of drugs. Instruction includes various systems of measurement. (2 Lec.)

A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. Focus is on the care of pediatric clients. A clinical rotation focused on transition to the role of the vocational nurse is also included. (6 Ext.)

A study of the biological, psychological and sociological concepts applicable to basic needs of the family including childbearing and neonatal care. Topics include physiological changes related to pregnancy, fetal development, and nursing care of the family during labor and delivery and the puerperium. (3 Lec.)
