An introduction to the philosophy of open source and its relationship to open source software. The student will explore the history of open source as well as current open source advocacy issues. Current legal, ethical, and economic issues associated with open source software will be emphasized, and successful deployments of open source software in industry will be discussed. Students will analyze the advantages and disadvantages of open source licensing over traditional proprietary licensing schemes. (3 Lec.)

Designing and publishing Web documents according to World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standards. Emphasis on optimization of graphics and images and exploration of the tools available for creating and editing Web documents. (3 Lec., 3 Lab.)
