Prereq: VICO MAJOR & C OR BETTER IN VICO 221. (cooperative buying fee) A foundation class in the basic imaging tools and techniques used for visual communication. The course will examine methods for effective communication using images as a language. Students will be required to have a digital SLR camera with manual exposure and focus capabilities. May be retaken one time excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.

Examines the planning, design, and computer preparation of charts, graphs, diagrams, and maps for use in newspapers and magazines. Prereq: VICO MAJOR & C OR BETTER IN VICO 120. (cooperative buying fee) An introduction to the production, design, and techniques of communikcation publication design. Explores the theory and practice of packaging content for presentation in both printed and electronic media.

Introduces and explores news design principles, practices, and visual journalistic decision making involved in presenting news. Prerequisites: C OR BETTER IN VICO 335 Credit Hours: 4 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken one time excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Prereq: C OR BETTER IN VICO 221. A flexible format for examining current and future topics in visual communication. Because of constantly changing trends in the profession, topics will vary as an area of need not covered in an existing class is identified. Topics will include the areas of rapid change such as technology, techniques, ethics, and aesthetics. May be repeated.

Using computer systems that simulate pagination programs, students will investigate methods of combining type, graphics, and photographs on the printed page. May be retaken one time excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.

Prereq: C OR BETTER IN (VICO 321 OR 390). This course provides students with an overview of the techniques used in photographic portraiture. Portraiture skills are essential to both photojournalists and commercial photographers. This class offers skills in natural and artificial lighting, working effectively with the subject/model, and the development of portraiture concepts. Students will be required to seek out portraiture subjects and produce photographs on location and in the studio. May be retaken one time excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
