Drama 338: Physical Theatre: An Exploration of Viewpoints and Suzuki Training
3.00 Credits
Washington University in St Louis
In this course students study two very different but complementary styles of movement training. Developed by the Saratoga International Theatre Institute, this method of actor training combines the improvisational exploration of time and space through "Viewpoints" with the rigid structure and physical demands of the Suzuki method. This combined approach is designed to develop heightened awareness and acute focus in the performer. In addition, it fosters greater impulsiveness and freedom in the moment while maintaining discipline and control. Students gain flexibility and strength and enhance their creative potential by balancing these seemingly opposing methods. Prerequisite: Drama 341 (Acting II) or Dance 106E (Introduction to Dance as a Contemporary Art Form).
