BME 477: Special Topics: Biomedical Measurements-Theory and Applications
3.00 Credits
Washington University in St Louis
Whether collecting data on Mars, in the operating room, during an important undersea experiment, for a clinical trial, or while performing a ubiquitous activity such as pouring water into a laboratory flask, engineers and scientists rely on the quality of data measured. A brilliant research experiment, a novel product or a forensic result will stand the pressure of criticism only if peers accept the underlying measurements. Open to all engineering fields, this course builds the fundamentals of measurements. Throughout a course split between theory and in-class practice, students explore examples from biomedicine as well as other engineering fields. Prerequisites: ESE 230, ESE 326 (or equivalent), calculus, or permission of instructor.
