    Listening comprehension, oral communication, and pronunciation skills for beginning academic students who are non-native speakers of English. Practice in spontaneous conversation and small group discussion. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. Not applicable to AA or AS degree. PREREQUISITE: Qualifying score on the ESL placement test administered through the OCC Assessment Center or approval of the ESL Advisor.

    Intensive introductory level of integrated basic grammar, reading, and writing of American English for non-native students who are pursuing college coursework. Includes work on sentence structure, questions, verb tenses, spelling and vocabulary. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. (Not applicable to AA degree.) PREREQUISITE: Qualifying score on the ESL placement test administered through the OCC Assessment Center or approval of the ESL Advisor. Also, qualifying score on the OCC ESL placement test for ESL A121 level or higher or concurrent enrollment in ESL A011.

    Listening comprehension, oral communication, and pronunciation skills for low-intermediate students. Practice comprehending classroom conversation skills and lectures. Practice in spontaneous conversation. Work on American sound system, including rhythm and intonation. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. PREREQUISITE: Qualifying score on the OCC ESL placement test or completion of ESL A011. Transfer Credit: CSU.

    Integrated intensive study of grammar, reading, and writing for low-intermediate students who are non-native speakers of English. Practice with sentence structure, tenses, modals, comparative and superlative, and clauses. Reading for facts and inferences. This course may also be offered online. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. PREREQUISITE: Qualifying score on the OCC ESL placement test or completion of ESL A015. Also, qualifying score on the OCC ESL placement test for ESL A121 or higher or completion of ESL A011. Transfer Credit: CSU.

    Listening comprehension, oral communication, and pronunciation skills for intermediate students. Practice on basic note-taking from lectures. Task-oriented discussion techniques. Review of basic patterns of American pronunciation. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. PREREQUISITE: Qualifying score on the OCC ESL placement test or completion of ESL A121. Transfer Credit: CSU.

    Integrated intensive study of grammar, reading, and writing for intermediate students who are non-native speakers of English. Introduction to literal and critical reading; responding to unsimplified texts. Writing practice for grammar, mechanics and fluency. This course may also be offered online. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. This course may be taken two times. PREREQUISITE: Qualifying score on the OCC ESL placement test or completion of ESL A125. Also, qualifying score on the OCC ESL placement test for ESL A131 or higher or completion of ESL A121. Transfer Credit: CSU.

    Listening comprehension, oral communication, and pronunciation skills for high-intermediate and advanced second language students. Practice in effective note-taking and listening for specific information. Work on interpersonal communication, oral presentation, and pronunciation. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. PREREQUISITE: Qualifying score on the OCC ESL placement test or completion of ESL A131. Transfer Credit: CSU.

    Integrated intensive study of grammar, reading, and writing for high-intermediate students who are non-native speakers of English. Review of intermediate grammar and reading skills, with work on advanced grammatical structures. Paragraph writing in response to readings. This course may also be offered online. May be taken for grades or on a pass-no pass basis. PREREQUISITE: Qualifying score on the OCC ESL placement test or completion of ESL A135. Also, qualifying score on the OCC ESL placement test for ESL A151 or completion of ESL A131. Transfer Credit: CSU.
