The focus of the course is on a comparative study of change in the two societies, particularly on the interaction of cultures and politics in the processes of modernization. The focus will be on examining political and economic change in Asia. The thrust of the course is comparative and students will be exposed to the history, politics, culture and economy of states in the region. The purpose of the course is to introduce students to the revolutionary and evolutionary changes in the region from a political and economic perspective, while providing a broader understanding of the regional and international implications of these changes.
