MATH 201: Calculus I

Introduction to the differential calculus of elementary functions (including logarithmic, exponential, and trigonometric functions). Emphasis on limits, continuity, and differentiation. Applications of differentiation (including curve sketching, optimization, and related rates; antiderivatives. Students may not use any Computer Algebra System (CAS) capability in this course. Prerequisite: (1) A grade of C- or better in MATH 192; or (2) Satisfaction of the Entry Level Mathematics requirement and an appropriate score on the UC/CSU MDTP Calculus Readiness Test or equivalent. It is recommended that students enroll concurrently in MATH 281. (4 units lecture and 1 unit lab) Note: Students without recent credit in MATH 192 are advised to consult the Department of Mathematics and to take the UC/CSU Pre-calculus Diagnostic Test before enrolling in MATH 201.

Course will not serve as prerequisite for Math 202.
