This is a course intended to ground the student with an understanding of the self, the process, and provide a beginning exploration of the elements and principles of artistic expression specific to theatre. 3 hours lecture.

College: COLLEGE OF THE ARTS Department: THEATRE & DANCE Credits: 3.00 Singing for the Actor I. Prerequisites: THTR 105 or THTR 115. This course will develop and train the actors' voice and interpretation of songs through exercises, vocal production technique, in-class vocal assignments, and texts. The student will be expected to learn and prepare several songs over the term and be expected to be able to present them in a professional manner, i.e., with confidence, control and in a manner which best displays the actors' vocal abilities. 3 hours lecture.

College: COLLEGE OF THE ARTS Department: THEATRE & DANCE Credits: 3.00 Acting I - B.F.A.: Theatre Games/Improvisation I. Prerequisites: B.F.A. in Theatre, Acting concentration only. Work on the actor's instrument; use of the senses, involvement with the environment and other actors; concentration, honesty, and work with freeing the body, voice and imagination. Improvisation is the primary tool used for developing the actor's instrument and shaping material. 1 hour lecture, 3 hours studio.

Basic movement for the actor in terms of development of characterization, physicality and projection of mood and attitude. 1 hour lecture, 3 hours studio.

Improvisation and theatre games used in developing a workshop for public presentation. 1 hour lecture, 3 hours studio.

College: COLLEGE OF THE ARTS Department: THEATRE & DANCE Credits: 3.00 Introduction to Design for Theatre. This course intends to develop students' understanding of textual interpretation as it relates to theatre design. Emphasis is placed on the exploration of ideas and the process by which visual metaphors are formed, developed and re-thought through the process of collaboration. Course includes text analysis, research, and the exploration of design ideas from a liberal arts point of view. Students are not expected to have strong technical skills. 3 hours lecture.

Prerequisites: B.A. in Theatre Studies, or B.F.A. in Theatre, Acting concentration, or B.F.A. in Theatre, Production/Design concentration, or B.F.A. Dance majors, or Theatre minor students only. An introductory course in technical theatre, primarily, scenery construction, lighting technology and costume construction. A practical experience course that involves stagecraft work in the theatre production shops. 3 hours lecture.
