Revisits the history, anatomy, classification, construction and use of type discussed in Art 287, but with greater emphasis on theory. Going beyond the foundation set in Typography, Advanced Typography will consider the emotional, expressive, and connotative aspects of letterforms and their organization. Students will also explore new ways of creating letterforms using different media. Possible applications could include environmental signage, sculptural installations and/or film. The transition from graphic design fundamentals to more complex visual communication problem solving, conceptual skills, and production geared to the development of samples for a design portfolio. A promotional series, advertising campaigns, corporate identity programs, and the relationship of design to marketing and advertising. For designers and fine artists with basic computer skills interested in more advanced concepts and creative techniques in computer imaging, painting, and photo manipulation. Computer graphics as it applies to both design and fine art; integration of the use of computers, scanner, digital photography, and printer in design, illustration, and fine arts projects. Introduction and application of illustration as a means toward effective visual communication. Emphasis on the development of the creative visual concept and its relationship to style, media, technique, and methods of reproduction. Introduction to a variety of traditional techniques. Specific publishing and advertising problems concerning books, editorials, magazines, ads, posters, TV, brochures, and annual reports. Prerequisites: Art 113, 114, and 191. Course Type(s): None

This hands-on course covers an overview of the creation of Web sites using desktop and World Wide Web-based software. This includes the basic concepts of organization, production and editing of the basic building blocks of Web design (text, graphics, video, audio, animation), and the assembly of these elements using software programs. This course is an advanced class in web design and production. It extends the design principles of the previous web development class, Web Design I. Students will focus on interactive, dynamic web content using Macromedia FLASH and streaming audio/video files on the Internet. Prerequisite: Art 383. Course Type(s): None

Students will learn advanced techniques of object building along with the basic theories and principles of animation using Maya.
