HIST 05445: History of the Cold War

This course explores the history of the Cold War by combining lecture and class discussion in a format that seeks to immerse students in the complex series of peaceful and violent interactions between the Soviet Union and the United States (and their allies and client states) that made up the Cold War. The course will focus on several critical issues and the dabates among historians over their causes and outcomes. Those issues include: the origins of the Cold War, Stalin and the Soviet system, the Berlin Crisis, war on the Korean peninsula, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Vietnam War, detante, and the collapse of the Communist Bloc.
