An examination of the various theories of organizational design and structure including the origins, functions, and purposes of bureaucratic and line and staff organizations, alignment of authority, responsibility and power, and the analysis of mission, objectives, and stakeholders. Newer organization approaches including matrix and virtual organizations are examined, and the influences of information, production, and logistics technologies in organizational design are explored.
