Safety for students such as personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and safe welding practices in the welding shop are emphasized. A study of welding symbols on drawings, nonferrous welding applications, welding codes, specifications and tests with special emphasis on The American Welding Society (AWS) welder qualifications and discussion on employability in the welding industry and employee/employer relations. Also covered are welding supplies and equipment maintenance. Basic weldments in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) are practiced and tested. Corequisite: WELD 151.
