Emphasis is placed on behavioral disorders, toxicology, environmentally related disorders, hematologic disorders, infectious diseases, disorders involving the eyes, ears, nose, and throat (EENT) and gynecologic disorders. This course covers the legal principles that govern health care, including documentation, the Patient Bill of Rights, liability, confidentiality, and specialized topics concerning emergency medical services. Protocols and laws specific to the State of Delaware will be emphasized. Also included is an overview of the collection and management of data associated with prehospital and preventive services. This course uses an interdisciplinary approach to synthesize, analyze, and consider solutions to a prehospital healthcare issue or problem. Topics include the creation of a research statement, the evaluation of published research, and the completion of a literature review. The course culminates with a faculty guided research experience to produce a scholarly written presentation or proposal.
