Studies the rise of Federalists, the War of 1812, and the emergence of the Jack- sonian Movement. Special emphasis on economic, political, and social forces from colonial times to the Civil War.

Emphasis is placed on the changing role of government in the lives of people and on the changing position of the United States in world affairs.
