    This course is designed to give students practice in the wide variety of writing formats used in business. Emphasis will be placed on determining which options are most effective under which circumstances and on the use of visual set-up to maximize clear communication. Writing assignments throughout the course will be gathered into a final portfolio of thirteen different examples of writing formats that students can use on job interviews. Prerequisite: Senior status.(Offered fall.)

    Advanced English Studies provides students with the opportunity to investigate topics, authors, or works they have encountered in prior English studies. First of all, Advanced English Studies will allow students to examine the primary texts more closely; students must show a clear understanding of text analysis concerns – structure, narration, characterization and theme. More importantly, the course will allow students to understand those texts in the light of other scholarly considerations. For example, students will explore the author’s background in more detail; the author’s education, reading interests, and religious influences will be noted. Students will also examine the historical and political culture of the author’s time and engage critical theoretical perspectives such as Deconstruction, Marxism, Feminism, New Historicism, Cultural criticism and New Criticism.     The development of our monetary and banking structure, with emphasis on the role of government and the Federal Reserve System in today’s economy. Also listed as BUS 301 and ECN 301. Prerequisite: ECN 201. (Offered in spring of odd academic years.)

    This is an elective course designed for transfer students who have waived the COR274/275 requirement or finance majors who have already completed the COR274/275 requirement and would like another cross cultural experience. The emphasis will be on domestic and international finance. This is an on campus preparation for the 21 day financial cross cultural program. (Limited offering.)

    This is a 21 day program to a country with an International Financial Center (including New York or Chicago) which will have the same format as COR 275 but the International Finance student will explore economics and international finance at a deeper level and have special pre-program research and projects assigned. This is not a substitute course for COR 275. (Limited offering.)

    This course provides an overview of risk management and insurance concepts. The primary focus is on the identification and evaluation of loss exposures in personal and business settings. Alternative techniques for managing these risks will be analyzed. Decision making methods under uncertainty are covered in this course. Prerequisite: BUS 351. (Offered in spring of odd academic years.)

    Topics may include Financial Information Systems, Risk Management, Insurance, Real Estate and International Finance offered on a rotating basis. Prerequisite: FIN 362. (Offered in spring of odd academic years, starting 2009-2010.)

    The theory and practice of investments, emphasizing securities, the manner and method of their exchange, the function of security market and the factors promoting changes in security prices. Prerequisites: ECN 201, ACC 221. (Offered in spring of even academic years.)
  • 6.00 Credits

    Substantive business experience in Finance. A student is matched up with a corporate partner or a business of choice. The internship experience will involve the student in a substantial financial role. The advisor will visit the work site to assess the student in the workplace and make suggestions that could enhance the internship experience.
