Emphasis is placed on a diagnostic approach to mathematics instruction and development, and a sound theory of the acquisition of mathematical concepts at the early grades. Prerequisites: Admission to the School of Education (Gate 1), successful completion of general education mathematics requirement, ED 303. Concurrent registration in all junior block courses. Offered spring semester; fall semester on demand. Two hours.

Emphasis is placed on a diagnostic approach to math instruction and development and to a sound theory of the acquisition of math concepts at the early grades. Candidates spend two days each week in an elementary school for a minimum of 102 hours of evaluated field experience. These placements are connected to the subject-specific courses taken as a part of the junior block. A current TB test and fingerprint-based background check must be on file in the School of Education prior to beginning the field component associated with this course. Verification of completion of field component is required for education candidates to pass this course. Prerequisites: Admission to the School of Education (Gate 1), admission to Field Experience (Gate 2), ED 303. Concurrent registration in all junior block courses. Offered spring semester; fall semester on demand. Two hours.

An advanced field-based elective utilizing the skills and concepts covered in ED 110. Candidates will create lessons and units in the elementary, middle, and secondary schools in cooperation with classroom teachers.
