Prerequisite: (1) Verification of successful completion of testing with the National Registry of EMT''s at either Emergency Medical Technician Basic or Intermediate levels; OR current certification by the Texas Department of State Health Services as an EMT-Basic or Intermediate (2) Current BCLS (CPR) certification at the Health Care Provider level by the American Heart Association or equivalent, (3) Successful completion of a departmental assessment of EMT-Basic knowledge at the DOT National Standard Curriculum level. An exploration of the foundations necessary for mastery of the advanced topics of clinical practice out of the hospital. This course is cross-listed as EMSP 1338. Lectures and discussions that prepares EMS professionals for the first response to nuclear, biological, or chemical terrorist attack. Topics discussed are nuclear, biological, and chemical agents, their dissemination, triage, and treatment of mass casualty terrorist attacks. Additional topics and interactive skills will further discuss and explore first-responses to multiple casualty incidents such as multi-victim vehicle crashes, structural collapses, and natural disasters.
