    This course introduces the utilization of Java Scripts in Web design in order to create dynamic and interactive Web pages. Students continue to develop the complexity of their Web design skills using Java Script. This course both surveys the array of existing Java Scripts available from the Internet, and introduces students to writing their own Java Scripts.

    Students apply their knowledge of typography towards creative projects designed to explore systems of text-based visual communication. Styling type for content is emphasized, as are both contemporary and historical typographic design trends and preparation of files for pre-press production. In addition, students research the works of an influential typographer, write a paper, and create a final project inspired by what the techniques they have learned. For this class, students are required to present a portfolio of 3-5 exemplary works. ( Prerequisites: ART 270, ART 273)

    This advanced Web design course teaches students to enhance their Web sites with multimedia elements such as sound files, video clips, animated GIFs, and other advanced graphics. Students Web interface design skills using both HTML and Java Scripts. ( Prerequisite: ART 292)

    This is the Graphic Design Capstone class in which students integrate illustration, imaging, and layout to produce a cohesive multi-page document. This class focuses on the process of publication design from conception through design and production. Topics include typography, layout, and application of design theory, production (paper selection, ink selection, file preparation, and wiring job specifications) and an introduction to copyright issues and legal and ethical aspects of the design profession. The writing component for this course must include a comprehensive project proposal and multiple articles to be used in the magazine design. Software for illustration, imaging and layout techniques are used with a focus on the production of multi-page documents. Students are required to produce a 12 page magazine of their own conception and to print, trim and bind it properly for their portfolio. ( Prerequisite: ART 263)

    This course introduces students to designing websites for the World Wide Web using a WYSIWG authoring program. Students learn the design process, including research, flowcharting, and user testing as they complete and publish a multi-page website. Site management, accessibility and usability, consistent layout and navigation, and proper preparation of images are emphasized. Students develop a working knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript, the three main languages used to create web pages. Students are required to present an original, multi-page website for their portfolio. Students will show print outs of screen shots for their print portfolio, as well as presenting the actual website as part of a digital portfolio. Students will also prepare a paper or PowerPoint presentation comparing and contrasting the design processes for print and web.

    Independent studies allow a student to explore a topic or area of interest. Students will propose a topic for tutorial study under the guidance of a supervising faculty member.

    This course facilitates mastery of advanced image creation via digital camera and photo manipulation techniques in Adobe Photoshop. Students refine composition, color correction, use of layers and masking, and the use and integration of type to create refined and complex images that convey particular themes, concepts, moods, or feelings. Students are required to present a portfolio of 3-5 exemplary works. ( Prerequisites: ART 207)

    Students are introduced to the basic concepts and principles of lighting for photography. Fundamentals of recognizing and controlling both natural and studio lighting are explored with an emphasis on quality, quantity, and direction and their effects on the photographic image. Students are required to present a portfolio of 3-5 exemplary works. ( Prerequisites: ART 207)

    Students explore the technical and artistic aspects of studio lighting and set-up for still life, portrait, and product photography. Students shoot, refine in Photoshop, and output assignments that emphasize common commercial subject matter, concepts, and applications. Students are required to present a portfolio of 3-5 exemplary works. ( Prerequisites: ART 207)
  • 4.00 Credits

    A group of students will team together for this internship to practically apply their skills in real world problem solving situations. All internships are project-oriented and directly related to the area of study. Each internship will be served under the sponsorship of a faculty advisor, and students will be required to document the results of their experience.
