    Art 160 is a foundation class that introduces additive and subtractive color theory. Subtractive color theory is explored and applied to solving a variety of visual problems to better understand color mixing, color harmony, color relationships, color symbolism, and the communication of ideas, feelings, and concepts through the use of color. Students utilize a variety of media such as colored paper, colored pencils, and paint. Color combinations/harmonies from various geographic regions, historic periods, and artistic styles are researched. Students are required to present a portfolio of 2-5 exemplary works.

    This is a foundation class that applies the principles of color theory, color interactions, optical phenomena to creative works in two dimensions. A variety of visual problems are explored to better understand color mixing, color harmony, color relationships, color symbolism, and the communication of ideas, feelings, and concepts through the use of color. Students utilize a variety of media such as colored paper, colored pencils, and paint. Color combinations/harmonies from various geographic regions, historic periods, and artistic styles are researched. Students are required to present a portfolio of 3-5 exemplary works.

    Art 170 is a production-based foundations class that introduces digital page composition; the integration of type and image. Students are introduced to QuarkXPress software and utilizing grids for the basics of page composition for single- and multi-page documents, elementary typography, press types and operations, paper properties, spot color and four-process color, inks, preflight and output operations, and binding/finishing methods.

    This is a production-based foundation class that introduces digital page composition; the integration of type and image. Students will begin the course by researching and presenting papers on the history of publication from Guttenberg's Bible to David Carson' s Raygun . Students are introduced to InDesign and utilizing grids for the basics of page composition for single- and multi-page documents, elementary typography, press types and operations, paper properties, spot color and four-process color, inks, preflight and output operations, and binding and finishing methods.

    This class develops representational and interpretative drawing skills while introducing students to creative problem-solving processes. Students focus on form and image-making and accurately rendering objects on a two-dimensional surface. Students explore the use of illustration as a medium to convey ideas or narrative through the ideation process of brainstorming and developing thumbnail sketches, roughs, and revisions. Students are introduced to color media. For this class, students are required to present a portfolio of 2-5 exemplary works. ( Prerequisite: ART 102)

    This course utilizes the Macintosh platform and Adobe Illustrator software to transfer manual drawing and painting skills into the creation of vector illustrations in digital file formats. Students explore a wide range of capabilities in computer graphics and illustration techniques. For this class, students are required to present a portfolio of 2-5 exemplary works. ( Prerequisite: ART 102 or ART 202)

    This is an introductory non-darkroom course in photography, which trains students in studio lighting and professional shooting techniques. Students use a variety of film (black & white, color, slide and print) to learn professional presentation options. Emphasis is placed on developing the verbal and visual skills necessary to appreciate and critique the medium both as a means of communications and as a fine art.
